Rolling Hitch

The Rolling Hitch is used to attach two ropes, so that the first rope can be slid along the second. Many consider this knot to be a Clove Hitch with an added turn. However, when you apply the extra turn, extreme tension must be applied. This knot is useful for constructing camp gadgets such as a table between two trees (one of these were constructed at Bass River). A rolling hitch on such a project will allow the scout to easily adjust the height of the table. When the adjustments are acceptable, use a stop knot below the rolling hitch to prevent it from slipping.
