I need to pass along the sad news that Steve Weldon passed away peacefully this morning at home,

Steve was a wonderful dedicated leader in our troop for many years and a special mentor to so many of our scouts.

His unique wit and way with words always kept us smiling, we all have many special memories of him.

He was a true friend, and a true gentleman, he will be missed, but always remembered,
remembered in the hearts of all the young men he taught over the years,
and by all of us who were blessed to be able to share a part of our lives with him

A memorial service will be held Thursday evening at the George Hassler Funeral Home in Jackson
I will pass along the time when it is arranged

Welcome Back!

Fund Raiser for the Sanner Family

posted Aug 21, 2019, 6:45 PM by Doug Gifford

To: Families, Friends and Alumni of Troop 258

William Sanner, a former scout in Troop 258, and his wife are facing hard times
They recently lost a child to cancer, and now his wife has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer
In addition to the many challenges they face, they are facing financial difficulties

William is a former Marine and former member of the Southard Fire Department
His father, Bill Sanner was one of the founders of our troop and the first Scoutmaster

The Monmouth County Sheriff PBA is organizing a softball tournament to raise money for William's family
The tournament will be held on Sunday September 29, beginning at 7:30 AM
We will entering a team in the tournament. Pat Garaffa and I will be organizing the team
For those of you who don't know Pat, he is a former leader of our troop and the father of an eagle scout

I would like to invite the families, friends and alumni of our troop to join us in this worthy cause
We are asking for a donation of $25 from each player

Please let me know if you are interested in playing, we are looking for 15 -20 people to join us on the team
The tournament is open to 16 teams and will be a "single pitch, clincher ball" double elimination tournament

If you are not able to play but would like to donate, Pat and I will collect the money and get it to the PBA for you.

Thank you in advance for your support

TO:  Friends and Families of Troop 258

The weekend of September 13-15 we are taking the scouts kayaking and crabbing in the salt marshes along Barnegat Bay as we have several times in the past.  This trip is a favorite of the boys and we have large number of boys signed up for the trip again this year.

Unfortunately, the outfit we have rented our kayaks from in the past is no longer in business and we will need to arrange for kayaks ourselves.

I would like to ask if anyone has a kayak they could loan the troop for that weekend,or knows of someone who does, it would be very much appreciated.  (sit in, sit on, 1 person, 2 person, whatever you may have)

Please let me know and I will work with you to arrange to pick it up.

Thank you in advance

Doug Gifford
