Freehold Challenger Picnic - June 15th. - Volunteers needed

posted May 31, 2014, 2:06 PM by Choong Yim
The Freehold Challenger program has been in existence for 22 years offering baseball, basketball and soccer for kids from ages 3 to 21 with special needs a chance to play sports and be themselves. They have about 200 players in three sports, 40 coaches, and has children enrolled from Jackson to Old Bridge.

Each participant has a volunteer buddy (mostly teens and preteens) who shadow the players through their every move. Whatever the player does, their buddy is right beside them, cheering them on and helping them to learn the skills needed to make that basket, pitch that ball, or run those bases. The buddies commits between 10 and 20 hours helping out in a nine week season.

The picnic is their year end awards and celebration.  Our troop participates by helping them with the food during this picnic and have been doing so for well over 10 years. We do the shopping for them the day before the event and on the day of, we set up the cooking and serving area, cook and serve hot dogs, drinks and cookies to all the participants, their buddies and families, well over 300 in a short period.

Event location: Michael J Tighe Park
Address: 65 Georgia Road, Freehold
Time: 8 am to 2 pm
Date: 15th June, 2014

Scouts and their families are welcome to help.

Would appreciate if you will let me know in advance so we have a head count of volunteers.
