>Holiday Closing

Monmouth Council will be close December 23rd at 3:30 pm in observance of Christmas. The Council will reopen Monday, December 28th. The Council will also close at 1pm on December 31st in observance of New Year's. We will reopen January 4th. We wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday season. Thank you for the generosity of your time to ensure the success of our Scouting program for youth in Monmouth and Middlesex counties.

Scouting for food has again been a great success and many food pantries have been restocked because of your efforts. Great Job! Now you need to report the results of your food collection -- by Dec. 15 -- on both of these reporting sites.

>Summer Camp Staff Interviews
 
Forestburg Summer Camp And Quail Hill Summer Camp Staff interviews will be conducted on December 27th at the Monmouth Council Service Center in Morganville, New Jersey. If you have any Scouts that you feel would be a good member of the 2016 staff, please encourage them to apply and join us on staff for a true learning experience. Your recommendations will ensure a top quality 2016 staff. Applications should be filled out prior to arrival. Please call Margie and set an interview time. 732-536-2347

Charters are due December 15! Don't get locked out of meeting for non-submission!

What do I do about Scouts turning 18? If you are receiving a warning or error message when trying to renew your charter with youth approaching 18 or who are already 18, please contact your district executive immediately.  Please make sure to note what the specific wording of the "error or warning" message that you are receiving on the screen or send a screen shot.

National Jamboree: July 19-28, 2017 - Monmouth Council needs leaders to supervise our Jamboree contingent. Applications are now being taken for the positions of Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Crew adviser. All Adult leaders must be trained in their current positions to remain on the unit Charter for 2015. Visit the Training Page of the website for the a list of all upcoming training sessions and to register for a session.

Units in need of training should contact Stephanie Billings atstephanie.billings@scouting.org to arrange for training at the unit.

We will be offering Cub Leader training classes quarterly that will rotate locations in each of our four districts.

If you are considering a charitable contribution this year, it is in your best interest to seek out the most effective manner in which your money can work for you. Gifting appreciated stock is one of the most effective means of tax savings available — courtesy of today’s U.S. tax laws.

The Benefits of Gifting Appreciated Stock

1. The satisfaction of knowing your money is invested in a cause important to you.

2. Capital gains taxes on the stock are avoided.

3. You will be eligible to receive an income tax charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the stock at the time of the gift.

To qualify for these special tax advantages, the security must have been held for at least one year. A gift of stock in certificate form should be postmarked by December 31 or your financial advisor can arrange for a year-end gift of stock from your account.

Your gift of appreciated stock is fully deductible up to 30% of your adjusted gross income. For example, if your adjusted gross income is $100,000, up to $30,000 of long-term appreciated stock and other capital gain property may generally be deducted, although high-income donors may be subject to a partial phase-out of itemized deductions. Any excess can generally be carried forward and deducted over as many as five subsequent years.

 

>Investors Bank Care 2 Share Program

Are you an Investor’s Bank Customer?  If you are presently a customer of Investor’s Bank or if you plan to move your accounts to Investor’s Bank in the future, you can be of great support to Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America.  If we can identify 75 families that presently use Investor’s Bank for their banking, the accounts will be designated for an “Affinity” program by Investor’s Bank.This means that each year, the Council will receive a check based on a percentage of the collective assets of those accounts.  The customer’s account will not be affected in any way.  This is a charitable program that Investor’s offer to non-profits. Friends of Scouting

  • Volunteer Involvement Program Make sure to follow your company rules/requirements for logging and approving volunteer hours. Remember any time you spend helping your unit, whether it is driving for a trip, or event spending the week at summer camp counts as "volunteer hours."

Looking for something to do with your spare time, a place to go to once a week and help a local charity. Join the BSA Mail Crew.

What is the BSA Mail Crew? It is a group of individuals who volunteer once a week (Thursdays or Fridays 9:00am to 12:00noon) to help the Boy Scouts of America assemble mailings.

Benefits: The knowledge and satisfaction of helping a local charity, free coffee & bagels and opportunities to attend some local Scouting activities as the guest of the council.
