Outdoor Leader Skills - Training

Battleground Scout Leaders:  Please forward to all volunteers:  Get more trained, ease your load.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader skills (IOLS)

This course gives adult leaders the practical knowledge they need to help Scouts to learn outdoor skills.  The skills presented closely follow the Boy Scout Handbook and rank advancement requirements. The purpose of the course is to ensure that new leaders are familiar with the basic outdoor skills at the Tenderfoot through First Class levels, and to show them some proven teaching methods.

Staff Instructors will be assigned to each patrol to help as needed in camp set up, cooking of meals, map reading, compass use, rope work, wood tools, hiking and packing, nature, first aid, and Leave No Trace.

Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters need to complete Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) in order to satisfy their basic training requirements. There is an IOLS course being offered at QHSR on April 4-6, 2014.  A flyer is attached for your convenience.
