Signup oday for the 2018 Monmouth Council Contingent to Philmont Scout Ranch.

Parents and Scouters,

Philmont is the adventure of a Scout’s (or Scouter’s) career – and may be the adventure of a lifetime! Over 1 million Scouts, Venturers and leaders have experienced the adventure of Philmont Scout Ranch since the first camping season in 1939.  Today, 23,000 participants attend Philmont Scout Ranch each summer.

Now is the time to register  online at tentaroo.com/monmouth. and start preparing for Monmouth Council’s Philmont 2018 Trek.  This only happens every two years for Monmouth Council.

Space is limited and is first come, first first served based on registering and paying deposit online. signed paper commitment forms also need to be submitted after registering online. http://mcbsa-philmont.org/2018/#forms.

The Monmouth Council Contingent will leave New Jersey on June 28, 2018 and fly to Colorado where we will spend one-and-a-half day’s en-route to Philmont ascending Pikes Peak on the Cog Railway, visiting the Garden of the Gods, and visiting the Koshare Indian Dancers at their Kiva.

Upon arrival at Philmont on June 30, 2018, there will be a whirlwind day of preparation before embarking into the Philmont Backcountry (also know as God’s Country) for 10 days of backpacking, hiking, and programs such as horseback rides, homesteading, spar pole climbing, gold panning and a mine tour, burro racing, rock climbing, fly tying, 30-06 rifle shooting, tomahawk throwing and many more. You will hike from 50 – 75 miles over terrain ranging from 6600’ to 12441` above sea level. You will see yourself and your crew members grow in personal confidence and capability and will learn what makes you and them tick.

At the end of the trail, you will enjoy the sense of accomplishment of having met the challenge that is Philmont – and on your way out of camp you, like so many others around you on the bus will turn around and look an the arrowhead formation that was the inspiration for the Philmont Arrowhead Award that you just earned and now wear proudly on your uniform. You will then start thinking about when you will return to Philmont again.  More details and information about the 2018 contingent is available on the Monmouth Council Philmont website: http://mcbsa-philmont.org/.

If you are a Scout who will be 14 years old or completed 8th Grade and at least 13 years old prior to participation talk with your fellow Scouts and your adult leaders about joining us in 2018.
