Update: September 6 Appalachian Trail Hike

posted Aug 29, 2014, 2:27 PM by Doug Gifford

Some of the younger scouts have expressed an interest in joining our hike next Saturday, September 6.  I discussed this with Mr. Smith and we decided to extend the invitation to all the scouts in the troop, not just those First Class and above as we stated earlier.

We are planning a six to seven mile loop hike along the Appalachian Trail in a beautiful area of NY.   This particular hike is not overly demanding and we are confident all of the boys will be able to enjoy it.  Parents are welcome to join us as well.

This will be a great experience for the younger scouts, (and I'm sure we'll sign a few rank requirements off along the way)

Please refer to my earlier post about the gear you need to bring.

Again, since we will not have a meeting before the hike, we will not have our normal sign up sheets.  I ask that anyone who is interested contact me directly. Please let me know if you will have a ride or need transportation.   Please contact me at:
or my cell:

We will meet at the Wawa on Rt 9 North, near Sunnyside Road, at 7AM.  It is about a 2 hour drive to the trail head off of Rt 17 near Tuxedo, NY.  I will provide driving directions on the 6th.

I have attached a permission slip.  Please print it out, complete it, and bring it on the 6th.  We will collect these before we leave.

Do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions. I’m looking forward to a great kick off our new year in scouts!  It promises to be a great day.
